James Brown

James Brown (* 3. Mai 1933 in der Nähe von Augusta, Georgia) ist ein afro-amerikanischer Musiker. Durch seine herausragende Stellung im Rhythm and Blues und Soul der 1950er und 1960er, aber vor allem durch seine Erfindung des Funk, gilt er als einer der bedeutendsten Musiker der Populärmusik im 20. Jhdt. Seine erste Platte erschien 1956 bei KING Records ("Please Please Please"), die er zusammen mit seiner langjährigen Backing Group "The Famous Flames" aufnahm. "Soul Brother Number One", "The Hardest Working Man In Show Business", "The Godfather Of Soul" und zuletzt "The Minister Of New Heavy Super Funk" sind die "Ehrentitel", mit denen er im Lauf seiner fast 40-jährigen Karriere gerühmt wurde - und die er sich meist selber verliehen hatte.
